The representatives of the lawyers' community have called upon the government to avoid the character assassination of the counsels of Chief Justice of Pakistan and stop publications of such advertisements in the press.
While talking to newsmen, member Pakistan Bar Council Kazim Khan, Vice-Chairman Punjab Bar Council Tariq Javed Chaudhry, President Lahore Bar Association Muhammad Shah and members Punjab Bar Council Zulfiqar Chaudhry, Shahid Mehmood Bhatti, Rabiya Bajwa condemned the action of the government to publish advertisements against them. They said that the counsel of Chief Justice Pakistan has a good record of professionalism and struggle for the rule of law and independence of judiciary.
They said such actions of the government could not stop them from fighting for truth and to help Chief Justice Pakistan. They will continue their struggle along with the legal fraternity till the revival of Chief Justice Pakistan and would not compromise with the dictator. They requested the acting Chief Justice of Pakistan to take action against the government for character assassination of Chief Justice and his counsel.
They termed the suspension of proceedings before the Supreme Judicial Council a success of lawyers' struggle for independence of judiciary and expressed their determination to continue their struggle against the illegal actions of the President of Pakistan and the government. They asked the lawyers to keep unity among their ranks and continue their struggle for rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
