Child born in Multan with heart on the outside
An infant with the most bizarre of anomalies was born with his heart outside his chest in Multan.
The child was born on Tuesday and taken to the Lahore Children Complex, as medical facilities in Multan were inadequate. Doctors elucidated that his heart was functioning proper but the child would be requiring a surgery to place the heart inside his body according to media reports.
The surgery is due today and the child has good chances to lead a healthy lifestyle.
The father of the child drives a taxi for a living and naturally so did not have the resources to afford expensive healthcare. The rare disorder is called ectopia cordis syndrome where the heart located either partly or completely outside the thorax and occurring in approximately 5.5-7.9 per million births.
