A chair on Gas Engineering at University of the Punjab has been sponsored by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL). A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the chair was signed between Punjab University and SNGPL in a ceremony held on Friday.
Under the MoU, SNGPL will perpetually provide a sum of Rs 2.5 million annually to the university against the sponsored chair. This MoU is historical and will be a milestone for the university-industry interaction, which is imperative for the national development.
Vice-chancellor Lieutenant General Arshad Mahmood (Retd) and Managing Director SNGPL A. Rashid Lone singed the MoU on behalf of their respective departments. The vice-chancellor appreciated the gesture of SNGPL as an initiative for developing university-industry interaction. MD SNGPL introduced the company, highlighting its role and contribution for the development of country's energy sector in respect of natural gas supply.
He stressed upon the need of university-industry linkage for the national development. He extended his full support and co-operation to sustain the interaction. He expressed his confidence in the engineering faculty of the university to fully utilise the sponsorship of the chair for the benefit of the students.
The Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor Dr M. Arif Butt, apprised the participants that this MoU would pave the way for starting various courses in the field of gas engineering under the faculty as well as undertaking joint research projects of mutual interest. He said that a four-year degree programme in the field of petroleum and gas engineering will soon be launched.
