The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) has strongly condemned pre-meditated attack on Aaj TV and other media and deplored the government's failure to intervene and provide protection.
In a statement, the KUJ termed these attacks as an attempt by the government to silence the media, which was informing the people about different facets of the ongoing judicial crisis.
It termed the act of violence as an act of terrorism, which was a dangerous trend contrary to the inalienable right of freedom of expression and strong manifestation of intolerance to the voice of dissent and demise of bipartisan political dispensation.
"This act of violence has made it doubtful that people would be allowed free expression of their choice in the coming elections, as the violence of Saturday, on the day when the Chief Justice of Pakistan came here to address the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Sindh High Court," said the KUJ.
The JUJ appealed to the media editors and their associations to put up a united resistance to such cowardice terrorist attack and the government's failure to provide protection to the media- both print and electronic. The KUJ also urged the international media organisations to condemn this attack on the freedom f the Press in Pakistan.-PR
