Joint opposition have appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of state terrorism, illegal confinement of Chief Justice of Pakistan and file murder case against President Pervez Musharraf, Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh for killing over 40 political workers in Karachi.
Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Saturday organised a protest demonstration against the "repression" in Karachi in which the Federal and Sindh governments allegedly gave Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) a free hand to attack opposition workers, who were out to receive Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The protest demonstration started from Al-Ikram Buildings and turned into a public rally at Rialto Chowk, which was addressed by National assembly member (MNA) Muhammad Haneef Abbasi, Dr Muhammad Kamal, Abdul Majeed Hazarvi, Maulana Naqshbandi and Maulana Haqqani
The demonstrators were chanting slogans against President Musharraf, Sindh Governor and Chief Minister and MQM. They were of the view that the government wanted to push the country into a civil war. But, the people would destroy all their evil designs, they said.
They expressed grave concerns over illegal confinement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at Karachi Airport, and alleged that the government in frustration wanted to kill Chief Justice to avert public pressure.
They said the government of Sindh had deployed all police force and Rangers at the airport to deprive the Chief Justice of the chance to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Supreme Court and address Sindh High Court Bar and Malir Bar.
They said that all roads leading to airport and Supreme Court's Karachi Registry were blocked by trollers, which caused hardships to the people and disturbed peace in Karachi.
They said that on the call of joint opposition, the nation would mark Sunday (May 13) as black day while on Monday a complete shutter down would be observed to protest against "illegal confinement" of the Chief Justice and killing of over 40 people.
