The Punjab government is actively considering to establish an "export trade centre" for women in the province. The products, being produced by womenfolk engaged in business, would be displayed at this proposed export trade centre, work on which would be carried out in near future.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that apart from this centre, the government had set aside Rs 250 million for providing soft loans to the women entrepreneurs in Punjab.
The main purpose of this programme was to provide solid footing to the businesswomen, to minimise financial problems as well as to enable them to establish small-scale industries and upgrade their existing industrial units in Punjab.
The sources said the present regime had focused its special attention on encouraging the women entrepreneurs to play their instrumental role in business sector and enhance the volume of exports in the province. A large number of womenfolk are already engaged in different business fields and are playing dominating role in readymade garments and fashion designing in the province.
Besides, the government had already initiated many programmes of social welfare of womenfolk and had kicked off various income generating programmes for women community, aimed at providing solid footing and enabling them to earn their livelihood in a respectable way, said the sources.
The Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC), sources said, had adopted adequate steps for providing assistance and guidance to the women entrepreneurs for obtaining loan to set up their business in the province.
