Chilean stocks edged up on Friday, boosted by rising markets in the United States amid reassuring inflation news, and the peso rose against the dollar. Chile's all-market IGPA index rose 0.21 percent to 14,440.52 points, while the blue chip IPSA index rose 0.45 percent to 3,247.27 points, preliminary closing figures showed.
Among the strongest gainers on the Chilean bourse was the country's leading air carrier, Lan Airlines, with its stock up 2.84 percent to 8,559 pesos per share.
Stock in the company has risen as LAN met with investors to discuss its plans for a capital increase and also comes a day after it reported April passenger traffic up 29.5 percent.
"I think the meetings were well received, and proof of that is that the stock also rose significantly on Thursday," said Rodrigo Sarria, at Santiago's Intervalores Corredores de Bolsa brokerage. Also up on Friday was stock of retailer Ripley Corp, which rose 1.03 percent to 780 pesos per share.
On the foreign exchange market, the Chilean peso strengthened 0.38 percent to 517.70/520.50 per dollar compared to Wednesday's close at 518.00/518.50.
