Sindh Minister for Local Government, Katchi Abadies and Spatial Development Muhammad Hussain Khan has said the Sindh Local Government Commission (SLGC) has to play vital role in ensuring better performance of various local bodies institutions.
He said this while presiding over 36th meeting of SLGC at his office here on Tuesday. Secretary Local Government Fazalur Rehman, Members of SLGC and MPAs Hameed-uz-Zaffar and Haji Munawar Ali Abbasi and Member Technical Anzar Hussain Zaidi, Abdul Hafeez Soomro and DG SLGC Khursheed Malik attended the meeting.
The minister said for better utilisation of development funds and ensuring all basic amenities to the masses at an accelerated pace, the Commission would be activated even more. In order to ensure good governance and transparent financial mechanism, the monitoring system of the Commission would have to be made more effective, he added.
Muhammad Hussain said SLGC have powers under Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) to conduct inspection of any local body institution any time. The meeting decided to conduct inspection of CDGK during next month to ensure better results. It also decided to issue notice to Union Council Nazim of Tando Muhammad Khan for establishing an illegal camp office.
He was directed to register his statement as soon as possible. On the matter of illegal appointment by former Taluka Nazim of TMA Dadu, he was asked to present his version of events within 15 days. Muhammad Hussain directed computerisation of records of complaints and action taken on the same and to make efforts to ensure availability of this record through inter-net.
He directed the committee, formulated for streamlining the performance of the Commission, to present its recommendations as soon as possible. The meeting was informed that the Commission received as many as 1116 complaints against various elected representatives, of which 562 have been disposed of, while 554 are still under review of the Commission.
Amongst the disposed of complaints, the Commission took action on 329 complaints by itself while 150 were referred to concerned District Nazims, 13 to police, 5 to Anti-Corruption, 2 to NAB and 63 to concerned UC/Taluka Nazims.
