Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were lower early on Tuesday on active seeding of the US corn crop, traders said. At 10:07 am CDT (1507 GMT), CBOT corn was unchanged to 3-1/2 cents per bushel lower, with July down 3 at $3.60-1/4 per bushel.
Traders said the US Agriculture Department crop progress report released late Monday, which showed US corn plantings 78 percent complete, was pressuring corn prices. The 78 percent pace was well above trade estimates of roughly 70 percent and also was equal to the average five-year US corn planting pace. Oat futures were unchanged to 2 cents per bushel lower, with September down 2 at $2.45-1/2 per bushel.
