Troops called out and curfew imposed in Tank on Thursday one day after unidentified gunmen opened fire on security check posts and government buildings, according to information received from the city.
A contingent of 200 soldiers arrived in the violence-hit city of Tank to restore peace. It is not far from South Waziristan, a troubled tribal region where there have recently been heavy clashes.
Police chief in the city Mumtaz Zareen confirmed the arrival of troops but said no decision has been taken to launch operation. He hinted that operation is likely to be conducted against suspected basis, adding that militants are present in several areas of the city.
Bomb blasts and attacks on police have increased in the city since March. Unidentified gunmen men involved in clashes with security forces in Tank over the week.
