Cocoa arrivals at ports in Ivory Coast from October 1 to May 13, 2007 reached 1,016,861 tonnes, compared with 1,102,771 in the same period last year, exporters said on Friday. The figures showed 17,555 tonnes arrived at ports from May 7-13, down from 28,343 in the same period of the 2005/06 season.
"It's a good volume compared with what we'd been getting since the start of the mid crop. We just hope the volumes will rise even more in the coming weeks," said the director of one major European exporter based in the economic capital Abidjan.
The exporter said there appeared to be an increase in deliveries at the Abidjan port this week as production in the April-September mid crop slowly picked up after delays caused by dry weather between January and March. A buyer for an exporter in the western port of San Pedro said he had also seen an increase in deliveries there this week.
