Interferon
Science & Technology, first prize stories
1992
Interferon has to be stored in an extremely cold environment. It protects the human body against virus infections and stimulates resistance against disease. A growing understanding of genetics is revolutionizing modern medicine. New kinds of medication will have fewer side effects, and some researchers believe that 50 years from now there will be effective drugs to treat almost every known disease.
