People who suffer mild asthma controlled by inhaling steroids twice daily could switch to inhaling once a day, or taking a daily pill, according to research published in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine.
The research was to see if patients with well-controlled symptoms could "step down" their medication use, researchers said in a statement. "This is good news for patients with mild, persistent asthma because it gives them more choices about how to manage their disease," said the lead author, Stephen Peters, who works at Wake Forest University's Center for Human Genomics.
