The President's Primary Health Care Initiative was formally launched in District Nowshera. This will ensure efficient delivery of basic health-care services at local level by improving monitoring and supervision of health sector in the district.
District Nazim Nowshera Mohammad Daud Khan Khattak was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony while Project Director PPHCI, Dr Fida Wazir, DCO Nowshera, Ashfaq Khan, EDO Health, Dr Arshad Khan and elected representatives of the local government were present on the occasion.
The District Nazim Nowshera terming the PPHCI as a positive step for the improvement of Health Care Delivery System hoped that the project would bring improvement in the health-care system of the district. Underlining the need of collective efforts to reform the sector he promised that the elected Nazimeen and the district government would fulfil their responsibilities in this regard. He assured all out support of the district government to make the project a success in the district. He also ordered to convene a meeting to sort out ways to support the project.
Project Director Fida Wazir while highlighting the salient features of PPHCI said the project was initiated with indigenous resources to decrease dependency on donors. He told that the initiative was aimed at ensuring better utilisation of the available resources for creating co-ordination among various vertical activities of the health-care sector.
District Support Manager, Rasheed Ahmad Khan said that under the project efforts were being taken to restore confidence of the people over BHUs. "Functioning of BHUs is focussed with community participation enabling it to work efficiently for preventive, curative and to promote health-care", he maintained.
He informed the support groups were being formed at local level to assist health care provide better health delivery. Disclosing findings of a survey conducted by the project, he said that majority of BHUs were needed repair, water supply and electrification.
He informed that as a result of monitoring, OPD increased by 15.3 percent while 23 school-health and 8 country-session were arranged in the district. Similarly, he said that 12 support groups were also formed in the district. The DSM suggested increased in medicines budget, grant of online budget and satisfactory working conditions for the health staff.
