City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has vowed to foil nefarious designs of some political leaders to disturb peace and development process in the metropolis taking advantage of May 12 tragic incidents.
He said Pakhtoons had a direct financial interest in Karachi, but some political leaders had come from outside were fanning ethnic discontent amongst the people living in this very city. Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at his secretariat on Tuesday, Kamal upheld his primary responsibility of being a representative of all ethnic and religious segments present in this very city.
He urged upon Karachiites to support the government's efforts to over come the problems emerged since May 12. He reiterated that his party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had played its pivotal role in helping all strata of the society indiscriminately of their cast religion, ethic identification, etc.
People of about 55 none Urdu-speaking localities have been awarded the ownership rights by the incumbent City District Government Karachi (CDGK), City Nazim said, adding that CDGK would continue its development work in the city in collaboration with Pakhtoons.
He pointed out that from a mere auto-rickshaw driver to the heaviest machinery operator and from a mason to a billionaire constructor, Pakhtoons were enjoying financial gains from the city, adding that such a larger opportunities across the country they would never find to avail. He termed the May 12 clashes as 'conspiracy' aimed at colliding all the ethnic segments with one other including Pakhtoons, Muhajirs, Punjabis, Sindhis, Baloch and others and being a City Nazim he would never let this tussle occur in the metropolis.
Criticising Asfandyar Wali Khan, Chief of Awami National Party (ANP) for his remarks against MQM, he said his party was not a terrorist outfit and strongly believed in uplift of the poor section of the society and development of the country.
