"Balochistan does not believe in any constitution nor any democratic government, the only thing it wants is freedom." These words were expressed by Yousaf Masti Khan, leader of the Pakistan National Workers Party at the Civil Society Dialogue organised by Sindh Democratic Forum.
He said that until and unless the economic interests of the military were ended, their involvement in political and economic affairs could not be eliminated. Khan said that there were $5.6 billion reserves for the military, while they were occupant on land resources, industrial resources and even the agricultural resources. Military was the richest section of the society. In order to end their involvement in politics, their economic interests should be eliminated, he said.
He said that there was no constitution in its original form, therefore there should be a new democratic and federal constitution addressing the reservations of all the segments and ethnicity of the country.
Anis Haroon, a women activist commenting on the incidents of May 12, said that Karachi was not owned by one party, it belonged to Pakistan and every Pakistani had equal right on it. She said that claiming to be the owning the city was a feudal attitude, which should be shunned. Anis recommended more peace initiatives.
She said that the strike called by ANP was another condemnable step, which also was a bid to claim the city.Other speakers also spoke on the occasion in Sindhi language.
