Sialkot district government has initiated well-knitted plan for the tracking the agriculture sector on modern and scientific lines for attaining maximum output of crops in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils, said District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Tuesday he pledged to introduce new agricultural technologies under the programme for increasing per acre yield in the district. Cheema said that under the programme special attention was being accorded on effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system, and ensuring the sufficient availability of quality seeds. The green houses would be set up at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils, he said.
He said during the current fiscal year 67 watercourses, of which 50 in canal areas and 17 in Barani areas, would be completed in the district. In order to set up agriculture laboratory Rs 3 million had been set aside while Rs 7 million were being mobilised on the establishment of veterinary centres in the district, he said. Cheema said that work on ongoing seven livestock schemes costing Rs 5.870 million was in full swing and more funds amounting to Rs 3.167 million were being spent on the projects implementation.
He said that special attention would be accorded on the repair and reconstruction of roads costing Rs 154.1 million and under the programme 47 schemes would be completed under district programme while 12 roads would be completed through grants.
He said the initial development work on widening and improvement of Sialkot-Head Marala road costing Rs 340 million had been initiated while the work on construction of a ring road would soon be undertaken for streamlining the traffic system. Cheema said that construction work on Sialkot-Lahore motorway costing Rs 20 billion would be carried out soon and its completion would help reduce the travelling distance between the two industrial cities.
