Farmers asked to use certified maize seed

The Federal Seed Certification & Registration Department (FSC&RD), Peshawar, has asked the farmers to use certified labelled maize seed of approved varieties in the province.
Each bag of certified labelled seed must carry stencilled information ie seed lot, kind of seed, category of seed, year of production, and name of the production agency, along with the tag "Issued by FSC&RD'. The department warned the seed dealers to deal with only certified quality seed to protect the farming community.
If the department finds any seed dealer involved in business of below-standard seed, action would be taken against him according to Seed Act, 1976. Moreover, all NGOs/development projects working in the Green Sector in the earthquake-affected areas have been advised to distribute only certified seed of maize, so that maximum yield may be achieved.-PR
