Sialkot traffic police has badly failed to control the traffic in the city and other highly busy junctions as a result of which there is total traffic chaos in Sialkot due to which road accidents and traffic jams have become a daily routine.
It is due to the lack of management by traffic police that roads remain blocked in the presence of police. The drivers of passenger wagons plying in city remain busy in pick and drop in the middle of the roads. It had been observed that most of the policemen deputed for controlling and channeling the traffic found busy in eating and smoking despite of discharging duties.
The Sialkot police has bowed to the transporters as a result of which coaches, buses and wagons plying on different routes block roads just for picking or dropping the passengers in peak hours on most busy roads of the city especially on Kashmir road.
The traffic at Pul Aik area, Kutchary road, Abbot road, Paris road, Lorry Adda and Kashmir Road, remains stuck up for a long time during peak hours but there is no policeman to handle the situation.
There are many so-called 'One Way' in most busy roads of the city but it is very unfortunate that police itself is violating one-way traffic rules. In most parts of the city traffic signals had been installed of which most of out of order. The violation of traffic rules are at hit the highest point on these traffic signals but there is no policeman to check the menace of violence and highhandedness of drivers of all vehicles.
It has also been witnessed that a large number of under-age children are playing with 'Chand Garis' without licence in the city while some handicapped and physically unfit persons are also plying rickshaws but police never make an effort to check this violation. It has also been observed that many old and unfit wagons are plying on different routes while most of the wagons are without doors and window glasses but nobody cares to check this malpractice of the concerned transporters.
To make sure the smooth flow of traffic, the traffic police should be deputed at all road crossings and junctions with strict instructions to efficiently control traffic for avoiding traffic jams in the city. The deployment of permanent of traffic policemen is direly needed at all city roads for providing relief to the general public of Sialkot. Sialkot Traffic Police should take immediate step for checking licence, under-age and handicapped drivers for ensuring the supremacy of traffic law in the city.
