Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon has said that Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (Pessi) has received an amount of Rs 1.2 billion under Social Security of the industrial workers during first seven months of the current fiscal year against the target of Rs 966.9 million for this period.
While talking to the media men on Friday, he said that recovery of social security fund remained 5.51 percent more than the target set for the first seven months of the current fiscal year. The recovery during the last year remained Rs 1.45 billion. The officers of Punjab Social Security have been directed to gear up efforts to expedite the registration of kiln workers for provision of social security cover to them and help the government in its efforts for eradication of bonded labour, he added.
The minister said the Punjab government was taking revolutionary measures for eradication of the bonded labour and protection of workers in the province. He directed the concerned officers to collect the data of the kiln workers and send monthly report and Commissioner Pessi office to counter check the date compiled by the labour officers.
He hoped that recovery would further improve. He said that incentives would be given to the officers showing good performance while strict action would be taken against the officers failing to meet the targets. He said that the industrial policy would be implemented in true spirit and the officers should exhibit workers friendly behaviour in execution of their duties.
He directed the officers to give top priority to the workers protection specially that of the kiln workers and keep constant liaison with the association of workers and the owners.
