The Agricultural Census Organisation (ACO) survey-2006 has shown growth in livestock population by 30 percent in 2006 over 1996 as against 21 percent growth in previous decade.
The Agricultural Census OrganiSation, an attached department of the Statistics Division, has released the report on Livestock Census 2006, which covered growth in the livestock production between 1996 to 2006 progress in artificial insemination, milk production and poultry production.
According to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the survey was carried in 1.03 million households all over Pakistan. The officers of provincial livestock department carried out the fieldwork, while tabulation and report compilation in addition to monitoring was done by ACO. The population of cattle, buffalo and sheep increased by 45 percent, 35 percent and 13 percent respectively during the decade ending 2006 against the increase in population by 16 percent, 29 percent and 1 percent in the previous decade.
