Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said the government is committed to achieve the millennium development goals and more funds will be allocated to bring further improvement in the health care of the people. Shaukat was talking to Begum Shehnaz Sheikh, Minister of State for Health, who called on him here on Sunday.
The Prime Minister said the government is working to control HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and Malaria and bring improvement in mother and child health care in the country.
He said the government is taking both preventive and curative steps to have an effective control on such diseases while mass awareness campaign is also being launched.
The Prime Minister emphasised the need for providing better training and skills to the nursing staff, which will help in providing better health care.
Minister of State for Health, Begum Shehnaz Sheikh updated the Prime Minister about the ongoing projects to control the diseases like Hepatitis, AIDS, Malaria and ensuring better health care to the mother and child. She said the government has also increased the pay scale of nurses from 14 to 16.
She said to provide better mother-child health care the number of LHVs is also being increased from 70,000 to 100,000. She said the government is focusing to reach all corners of the country to improve the health condition of the people.
She thanked the Prime Minister for the support extended to the Ministry of Health and said the additional funds provided by the government will further help to achieve the millennium development goals.
