Sialkot district government is finalising necessary arrangements for launching a pilot project under which 35 educational centers would be set up in each union council.
District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema, talking to Business Recorder here on Sunday, said the work on this project would be carried out soon with concept of attaining 100 percent of literacy rate in the district.
He said that maximum funds would be allocated for ensuring the missing facilities in educational institutions evenly in urban and rural areas in upcoming budget of the district government. Akmal said that Rs700 million had been set aside for the improvement of buildings of educational institutions of which Rs 52 million were being utilised by the School Councils for the accomplishment of their needs.
The nazim said that quality education, improved health facilities and means of communication was top on the agenda of the district government. In order to improve the communication network Rs600 million were being spent on 127 different roads in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils.
He said that the step had been taken for the improvement of road network as well as linking the ignored and far-off areas with their respective tehsil headquarters of the district.
Besides, the construction of Rs20 billion project Sialkot-Lahore motorway would open new vista of prosperity and development as well as further accelerate the trade and commerce activities in the area, he added.
Cheema said that special attention had been accorded on the improvement of health sector and Rs 140 million were being spent on the improvement of district, tehsil, basic health units and rural health centres.
He said Rs55.8 million were being utilised on the provision of medicines and Rs 10 million on the provision of new hospital machinery of Allama Iqbal hospital Sialkot.
