Chairman, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), Saeed-uz-Zafar on Sunday said that line losses have been reduced from 22.8 percent to 20 percent and could be reduced further if people do not use loose connections.
Speaking in a PTV programme he said that the people should discourage sub standard devices and the energy saving devices should be used. He said that anything related to electricity cannot be adopted without permission of Nepra, adding they issue licenses for generation, transmission and distribution purposes and any billing beyond the rates of Nepra, was considered illegal.
Nepra subscribes the performance standards for the power-related companies, which includes safety and quality of service, he added.
Chairman Nepra said that anyone can claim if there is any loss due to over voltage or low voltage, adding the complaint cell of Nepra receives almost 500 complaints every month and take action accordingly.
Saeed-uz-Zafar underlined the need to enhance oil and gas explorations as the country has huge reserves of fossil fuel to meet its growing demand. "We have no shortage of resources and running the Nepra on modern lines and are working on self generated resources" ,he added.
Chairman Nepra said that serious efforts would be made to increase the power generation so that the consumers could have electricity at lower rates.
