Newcastle coal exports rise

Australia's coal exports from Newcastle Port rose more than 9 percent in the past week, while the waiting time continued to shorten, official port data showed on Monday. Newcastle Port, one of Australia's largest coal export terminals, saw exports rise by 170,000 tonnes to 1.885 million tonnes for the week ended May 28, data from Newcastle Port Corporation (NPC) showed.
The waiting times at the port declined by more than two days to 23.54 days from the previous week's 25.76 days. But vessel queues were almost unchanged at 63 ships, including those three which were ready to commence loading, compared with the previous week's count of 62, data showed. Of the total, the three vessels are projected to load a combined 223,460 tonnes of coal, while the remainder is to load 5.5 million tonnes of coal.
