National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh will file a reference in the Accountability Court No 1 on Thursday, regarding corruption in the purchase of old aircraft for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Deputy Prosecutor General NAB Sindh, Shafat Sherwani told newsmen that investigations regarding the case were underway and added that chairmen serving PIA from 1999 to 2003 including Shahid Khakan Abbasi, Sher Afghan, Ahmed Saeed and Tariq Kirmani and board of directors would also be included in the investigation.
The reference has so far nominated three accused including General Sales Agent of Cathy Pacific, Cyrus Mainwala, Director Corporate Planning PIA, Rashid Hasan and Pervez Hussain.
It may be mentioned here that NAB Sindh has sealed the bank accounts and property of Cyrus Mainwala, while NAB has submitted a plea with the court to take stay in this regard. According to the reference the accused manipulated $10.5 million in the purchase of old aircraft from Cathy Pacific for PIA and caused a loss of millions of dollars to the national exchequer and a dent on the reputation of the national flag carrier.
