Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday personally attended to public complaints by receiving phone calls from people and hoped it would help in prompt redressal of their problems. The prime minister took calls at the Public Grievances and Proposals Wing (PG&PW) at the PM Secretariat that has been specifically set up to register public complaints.
The PG&PW received some 7,000 calls since morning after it was announced that the prime minister would receive the calls. The prime minister said the cell would bridge the gap between the government and the people and would help in redressing their problems, without undue delay.
"We have set up a system to address the collective and individual problems of the common man," he said while talking to the media. Aziz said the people would get relief and be able to contact him directly, thus creating an effective linkage.
He appreciated the role of media in highlighting the issues confronting the common man and urged them to point out the genuine deficiencies so that these could be addressed.
The prime minister attended to a few randomly selected calls by the persons seeking solution to financial, property and other disputes. To a caller Mushtaq Ahmad from Mansehra, who sought financial assistance for marriage of his two daughters, the prime minister gave on the spot orders for providing the caller financial help.
To a woman calling from the capital and requesting for shelter as her husband was a low-paid government employee, the prime minister said the government was working on a plan to provide low-cost housing to the people. He asked the woman to send a written application so that it could be processed.
