Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday said that the Presidential election would prove that Pakistan Peoples Party and the government have reached a deal. Talking to reporters here after attending a function, the Railways Minister said things were moving positively as far as the government and PPP contacts were concerned.
Responding to a query, he said there was no 'land sliding' in backdoor manoeuvres. "Everybody will see it during the Presidential election to be held between September 15 and October 15," he said in reply to a question.
Sheikh Rashid did not reply when he was asked whether the government would counter what Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said in his affidavit. "I don't know but one thing is quite clear that the government would accept the decision of the court," he added.
Earlier, speaking at a function organised by Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Rashid said Pakistan Peoples Party would play a vital role in re-election of President Musharraf by the present assemblies. He was of the view that the government itself has put itself in trouble by mishandling the Chief Justice case. Speaking about the history of the country particularly the political culture, Sheikh Rashid said the dilemma was absence of a genuine political leadership.
Though, he maintained the opposition was not capable of creating problems for the government yet the government would have to resolve the on-going crisis. Criticising the political parties' leadership, he said the major political parties were not letting any visionary person to come forward. "Unfortunately we are a crowd not a nation. I don't know how long it would take us to become a nation," he regretted. He informed the participants that the government was fully aware of the anti-US sentiments.
