Jahangir Khan Tareen, Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiative, has said that lawyers in their speeches, in the May 26 seminar held under the auspicious of Supreme Court Bar Association, have targeted vital state institutions in flagrant disregard of Supreme Court's instructions, judicial norms, ethical values and national considerations.
In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, he said that through political slogans and provocative speeches the decorum and dignity of the Supreme Court Bar was violated, which is deplorable and regrettable. These lawyers used the presence of media and the live transmissions to further their personal and political objectives by dramatising and sensationalising the sensitive judicial issue.
Tareen said that comments and speeches on a constitutional issue in contravention of the honourable Supreme Court's expressive instructions and code of conduct was an attempt to create divisions and misunderstanding among the state institutions.
He said that instead of adherence to the topic of seminar the occasion was used as a mean to transmit the wrong message of disruption and disturbance. He said that some lawyers seemed to be exploiting constitutional and judicial matters for the furtherance of their political objectives.
