The Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Javed Iqbal took Suo Motu notice on a telephonic call made by a woman Kausar, resident of G- 11/3 alleging that she feared death threats from her husband. Taking Suo Motu notice of the call the ACJ directed the Islamabad Police to provide security to the woman.
In the order passed by the ACJP it is directed that, "Mst Kausar, resident of House No 7, Street No 3, Sector G-11/3, Islamabad made a telephone call in the night between 29th and 30th of May, 2007. She stated that she feared death, physical harm and mental torture at the hands of her husband Ranbail and nuisance / embarrassment to the inmates of the house with whom she was residing.
She stated that accused had been visiting the place of her abode for the last many days and had been extending threats to her. She further stated that the accused also tried to scale over the boundary wall/gate of the house but was restrained with the help of dog.
She stated that she had been turned away by her husband from his house and she was serving as a maid in the said house. She was compelled to file a suit for dissolution of marriage, which is pending before the Judge Family Court, Islamabad, She prayed that protection may be provided to her."
The Court directed DIG, Islamabad, to provide security/protection to the woman and take action in the matter in accordance with law. The Court said "It is inter alia the primary duty of the police to protect life, property and liberty of citizens, prevent the commission of offence and public nuisance, afford relief to people in distress situations, particularly in respect' of the woman and children.
There is a need to ensure that the aggrieved citizens have free and easy access to the police authorities, who should be ever ready and willing to listen to their complaints and take immediate action in accordance with law,"the court emphasised. DIG, Islamabad, acting upon the orders immediately deployed police force.
