The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has collected Rs 719.6 billion in July-May (2006-2007) against Rs 610.6 billion in the corresponding period last fiscal year, indicating a growth of 17.9 percent. According to provisional figures released on Thursday, the CBR has surpassed the revenue target of July-May 2006-2007.
The board has to collect Rs 115.4 billion in June to meet the target of Rs 835 billion by the end of current fiscal. Breakup reveals that the direct taxes collection was Rs 269.84 billion against Rs 181.9 billion, showing a commendable increase of 48.3 percent.
Sales tax collection has reached Rs 274.7 billion against Rs 259.1 billion, indicating a growth of 5.9 percent. GST collection at the import stage was Rs 157.57 billion against Rs 152.018 billion, showing a growth of 3.7 percent, whereas, GST collection on domestic consumption was Rs 116.74 billion against Rs 107 billion, reflecting an increase of 9 percent.
The collection of Federal Excise Duty (FED) has reached Rs 61.6 billion against Rs 51.6 billion in the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 19.5 percent.
The CBR has collected Rs 113.9 billion as customs duty during July-May 2006-2007 against Rs 117.99 billion last year, showing a decrease of 3.5 percent. The provisional collection of federal taxes during May 2007 was Rs 63.2 billion, which is expected to increase further in coming days when provisional figures are finalised.
