A two-member bench comprising acting Chief Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan has referred the government complaint against the speakers of the Supreme Court Bar Association seminar held on May 6 to the full bench.
In a letter written to the Registrar Supreme Court, the Interior Ministry stated that the acting Chief Justice had permitted the SCBA to hold a seminar in the hall of the Supreme Court building on two conditions ie, the occasion would not be used for political purposes and that no character assassination would be done.
The government said that the management of the SBCA violated these conditions and made derogatory remarks against the government and the senior judges of the court. The two-member bench briefly heard the complaint on Thursday and observed that in view of the points raised by the law officer, the matter would be heard by a full bench. The full bench is likely to take up the case on June 4.
