The 4th consecutive 'My Karachi Exhibition' is being inaugurated on Friday (today) by Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan at the Karachi Expo Centre. Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) is organising this event in collaboration with the Sindh government, City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and Ministry of Tourism.
The Karachi chamber has made all arrangements to hold the exhibition from June 01 to June 03. The annual event is a prominent feature promoting country's exports and soft image of Pakistan before the world, which is being organised by the KCCI for the last four years.
The Expo will be accommodating around 300 stalls, out of which 65 are by the international exhibitors including 36 exhibitors from Sri Lanka, four from India, seven from Indonesia, two from Belgium and one stall each from France and Germany.
Convenor of the 'My Karachi Oasis of Harmony' exhibition, Shamoon Bakar Ali told Business Recorder that KCCI was holding this exhibition for the last four years and the response was even overwhelming each time. The last expo was a success as well, he said, which attracted quite a positive response. However, he could not provide any statistics in this regard.
"Image building is our prime objective behind organising this event. The exhibition will play an important role in restoring the hustle and bustle of the city of lights, highlighting its soft image and introducing country's products at international level," Shamoon said.
The exhibitors will be displaying all sort of consumer products, chemicals, electrical equipment, gold and diamond jewellery and handicrafts etc. Along with the international exhibitors, a number of local and multi-national companies including Mobilink are also holding their stalls.
Shamoon Bakar Ali said that as many 100 sites had been reserved for women entrepreneurs and the stalls were given to them on lesser rates to promote women entrepreneurship. He said that there would be no entry fees and the exhibition would be on for general public and families from June 01 to June 03.
He said that the activities in the cosmopolitan city had normalised and the exhibition would be held in a traditional manner. To a question, he said that a few of the exhibitors from India, Sri Lanka and a delegation from Dhaka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, who had confirmed their participation changed their plans due to the disturbance in the city arising from May 12 incidents. However, the overall response was quite positive.
