Minister of State for Education Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli termed the implementation of revised curriculum as crucial in speeding up efforts to eradicate illiteracy from the country. Addressing the meeting of National Committee on "Development of National Curriculum for Literacy," she said the government was concentrating on functional literacy to uplift the standard of education.
Officials of Education Ministry, Unesco and Esra attended the meeting. She said the revised curriculum is also an attempt to focus on areas, which will help students in enhancing their income generating skills.
She deplored the role of previous governments in the field of education, saying that nothing concrete was done to better the educational standard. She said literacy is not just writing and reading skills but should have a functional aspect to it.
Zeb underlined the need for joint efforts for the elimination of illiteracy, calling it a major hurdle in the development of the country. Educational Advisor Saqib Ali Khan said nation is facing massive challenges and introduction of the new curriculum would aid the students in meeting learning targets.
He said new curriculum is prepared with the aim to increase learning capacity of the students. Senior Education Specialist Arshad Saeed lauded the Ministry of Education, Esra and Unesco for providing funds to carry out education reforms.
