Former agent and football pundit Gordon Smith has taken over as the new chief executive of the Scottish Football Association. Smith, who played for Kilmarnock, Rangers, Brighton and Manchester City, replaces David Taylor, who left the SFA to become UEFA's new general secretary.
The SFA confirmed Friday at their annual general meeting the outgoing president John McBeth has been awarded an honorary vice-presidency of the association. Member clubs have voted in favour of plans to open up the Scottish Cup from next season, when four junior clubs will be given places in the first round.
The SFA have decided to scrap the Cup qualifying competitions, meaning an extra round will be added. Semi-finals replays have also been scrapped, with extra-time and penalties to be used where necessary to decide future games.
