Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has said that basic objective of the government is law and order and development in the province and this city, and to provide facilities to people without any discrimination.
Addressing Pakhtoon Loya Jirga, led by its Chairman Shahi Syed, which met him at the Governor House, he said Pakhtoons were our brothers and would move ahead together in the journey for peace and development.
Shahi Syed said that this meeting with the Governor would prove an important milestone in the establishment of peace. "We have no political objectives, nor any differences with the government and will cooperate fully in this regard," he added.
Governor Ibad said no matter people belonged to which area or language, their problems were our problems and genuine problems would be solved, and made it clear that other provinces, too, had similar problems and matters relating to administration and police. But it would be wrong if these were thought about with ethnic mentality, he added. "If any member of the administration creates a problem for anyone on ethnic grounds, then he will be the first to take action against him," said the Governor.
The Governor pointed out that the livelihood and interests of people, who lived in this city and the province, were linked with each other and they all had to live here.
He referred to hard work done during the last four-and-a-half years for the development of province and welfare of people, and said he just could not see it being destroyed. "We want all to progress while living with peace and within the ambit of law".
Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad said the government made the environment conducive by improving law and order and promoting brotherhood as a result of which investment today was flowing in and mega projects being implemented.
He informed the Jirga delegation that for the first, at the recent Davos international conference, Karachi was included among the best cities of the world from investment point of view, because development was taking place here and investment growing.
"In three years, we raised the province's development budget from five billion rupees to Rs 34 billion, which will increase further in the coming budget," he said, adding that fruits of efforts for development and betterment were now reaching the common people and not a particular class, without any discrimination of area and language.
"We are keen for bringing improvement in every sector and police system is also being rectified", the Governor said, and added: "We are creating an environment where criminals and not the people felt fearful of police." The police had been directed not to harass any section of people, including the transporters, he said.
Loya Jirga chief Shahi Syed said Pakhtoon Action Committee had no differences with any political party or government and was against ethnic confrontation.
He said peace in Karachi was essential not only for Pakistan, but also for all communities residing here. "We are against class hatred and will cooperate for the formation of best collective society in Karachi and forging happy relations between people of all languages".
Inspector General of Police Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi, Principal Secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Javed Hanif and other officials were also present on the occasion. The governor told the Jirga members that peace committees would be set up for promoting a conducive environment of unity and cohesion in the city.
