Sports has a great importance in growth of human mind and body. If human mind is broadened, education and study would also be larger so the government should focus on sports along with education. Punjab University vice-chancellor, Arshad Mahmood said this while meeting with Federal Minister for Sports Mian Shamim Haider, here on Monday.
Arshad told the minister that the University was ahead in the field of sports along with academic development. Punjab University (PU) has the most titles of sports being played at Higher Education Commission and university levels.
The university has taken many steps to provide better facilities to students for the development of sports and constructing world level sports complex, gymnasium, and track for women sports, which would be completed next year.
He suggested that for the development of sports in the country, supervision of government at school and college level was a must so that players at university, provincial and national level could show their skills in their fields.
He said that the university had reserved seats for students on sports basis and also gave cash awards and scholarships to the players showing best performance in sports. The minister assured his full co-operation to the vice-chancellor on the occasion.
