Provincial Industries Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema has directed the concerned authorities to complete the construction work of River Tavi bridge before the start of monsoon season to ensure smooth traffic during flood season.
It may be mentioned that during heavy rains in catchment areas, 85 villages of Bujwat vicinity remained cut off from the district headquarter. Talking to reporters after inspecting the bridge (Saidpur) on Sunday, he said that this 1,300-foot long and 24-foot wide Tavi bridge would be accomplished at a cost of Rs 190 million, and with its completion as many as 85 villages of Bujwat area of Sialkot, would be linked permanently with the district headquarter.
The Industries Minister said the bridge would not serve the purpose of communication, but it would also open new vistas of development and prosperity the area. More than rupees one billion were being spent on completion of various development projects pertaining to people's welfare in PP-121, he revealed.
Ajmal Cheema disclosed that special steps were also being taken to protecting agricultural land's rapid erosion due to flooding of River Chenab, adding that erosion was a natural course as a result of which vast area of agricultural inundated.
The Provincial Industries Minister also sought the dwellers' co-operation for accelerating the pace of protection plan for stopping further corrosion. He further revealed that the provincial government was actively considering to initiate a well-knitted plan under which small scale and agro-based industries would be established in neglected areas of the province.
This proposed plan would not only help promote the small scale and agro-based industries, but would also help check the rapid rural migration to the urban areas, he added.
