President Pervez Musharraf is paying full attention to promote technical and vocational education in the country and recently he has promulgated an ordinance for the establishment of National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec).
Which would be very helpful to meet the increasing demand of skilled work force in the country and technical institutions would be opened in three other provinces on the pattern of Punjab. Parliamentary Secretary Tevta Rubina Sulehri Noor expressed these views while addressing a seminar on the promotion of "Hunermandi and role of Punjab" held here on Tuesday.
She said that on the special direction of Chief Minister Punjab "Hunermand Punjab Programme" (HPP) has been started in the province at a cost of Rs 650 million and second phase of HPP would be completed this month. She said that the government has evolved a comprehensive strategy to prepare 100,000 skilled workers every year and this programme has been introduced absolutely free of cost.
Rubina Sulehri said that under the dynamic leadership and vision of the President and the Chief Minister Punjab, technical and vocational education has become the top priority of government and special new and modern technological courses are being introduced in technical vocational centres.
"The budget of Tevta would be increased in the coming budget for the fiscal year 2007-2008 and new technical institutions would be opened throughout the province. Navtec is a sincere and concrete step of the President for the promotion of technical education and it would also help to reduce the unemployment," she added.
