DUBAI: Pakistan's superstar all-rounder Shahid Afridi announced on Friday night that he is leaving Peshawar Zalmi both as president and player citing ‘personal reasons’. He plans to join another team for the next season of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Afridi made this announcement in two tweets, in which he announced his resignation and expressed best wishes for Zalmis.

On late Friday night he tweeted,

"Won the cup with 1 team, time for another. I am announcing my end of service as president & player of Peshawar Zalmi Team due to my personal reasons," the former Pakistan captain posted.

Later on he said,

"My best wishes with Peshawar Zalmi and as far as my Peshawar fans are concerned I know they are with me wherever I go."

The owner of the franchise, Javed Afridi seemed to be surprised over Afridi’s decision as he responded, "I'm completely unaware of what happened," according to Geo News.

Afridi led Peshawar Zalmi in the first edition of PSL but stepped aside from captain's role after being named as the president of the franchise and handed over the captaincy to Darren Sammy for the second edition of PSL, in which the team bagged the trophy.
