Vice-chancellor, Government College University (GCU) Professor Dr Khalid Aftab has said that improvement in education should be an ongoing process, which is imperative for heralding better academic environment in an institution.
He said this while addressing the inaugural session of a three-day workshop on faculty development program (PDF) held under the aegis of Quality Enhancement Cell of the GCU here on Wednesday.
He hoped that the GCU would remain ahead of all other universities in terms of quality education. The vice-chancellor observed "We got to make fair assessment of the reality around us and if we want to excel in the realm of quality education, we have to focus quality assessment and quality improvement exercises. We need to put in concerted efforts and in this regard the Quality Enhancement Cell is gradually making us realise to ensure quality education at the campus," he added.
"We have set up a vision 2010-2015, under which GCU should be producing world class graduates," he added. He argued that quality of a product or a service is a better part of planning or production.
Consultant on Quality Assurance to GC University Lahore Akbar Rahmatullah while making his presentation on quality assurance in higher education and its implementations process talked with reference to the academic teaching functions. Director Academic and external links GCU Ms Iram Sohail and Urooj Ehsan also made their presentations.
Moreover, the inaugural ceremony of the personal books collection of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan late Malik Miraj Khalid was held at the central library of the GC University Lahore here on Wednesday.
Malik Zubair Khalid, son of late Miraj Khalid, Rao Rashid, Rana Ikhtisham Rabbani, Rana Ikram Rabbani and Sohail Gowindvi attended the ceremony. The GC University Lahore has 613 books collection of Miraj Khalid.
Professor Dr Khalid Aftab said on the occasion that books have greater importance in terms of disseminating knowledge to a person and enhancing his vision. He said that libraries play pivotal role in shaping the academic mind set of the students and GCU is one of the fortunate institutions in the country which has excellent set up of libraries ie central library, post graduate library and the departmental libraries.
