Two former White House officials were subpoenaed on Wednesday as part of the congressional probe of US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' firing last year of federal prosecutors. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont issued subpoenas for testimony and documents from former White House political director Sara Taylor.
Leahy, in letter to Taylor, said she has until June 28 to turn over the paperwork and is to appear before his committee on July 11. House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, meanwhile, issued subpoenas for documents and testimony from former White House counsel Harriet Miers. She was ordered to appear July 12.
