Pakistan on Thursday condemned the killing of a senior Lebanese Parliamentarian and several other civilians in a terrorist attack in Beirut on June 13. Walid Eido was among at least 10 people killed in Wednesday's bombing in Beirut.
"Pakistan unequivocally condemns such criminal acts of target assassinations, which are attempts to destabilise the country and undermine the ongoing efforts for national reconciliation," Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said in his message of sympathy to his Lebanese counterpart Fouad Siniora.
"We in Pakistan have been deeply grieved by the terrorist attack yesterday that has claimed the precious lives of Walid Eido, a senior Parliamentarian, his son and eight others," he said.
He said Pakistan fully supports the Government of Lebanon in its endeavours at combating terrorism and violence, and would like to impress upon all parties in the country to stand united for preventing any deterioration of the situation. "On behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, I wish to convey our sincere condolences and sympathy over this tragic loss to the Government and people of Lebanon, and in particular the families of the victims of this heinous crime," PM said.
