The National Assembly on Thursday unanimously condemned bomb attack on revered Imam Askariya shrine in the Iraqi city of Samarra. The house adopted a unanimous resolution moved by a treasury member Riaz Hussain Pirzada in the presence of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
Suspected al Qaeda militants on Wednesday blew up the minarets of the Imam Hassan Askari's holy shrine in Samarra. The shrine had already been badly damaged due to a similar attack in February 2006.
Speaker Amir Hussain requested Riaz Pirzada to consult the resolution with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar before moving in the house. However, Khusro Bakhtiar endorsed the resolution and supported Pirzada.
The resolution urged Iraqi government to apprehend the culprits involved in attacking holy shrine and make efforts to control sectarianism in war-torn country. The house also called upon the Pakistan government to take steps for religious harmony and to control sectarian violence in the country.
