The police carried out raids on wholesale outlets in Dhak Market, Sukkur and seized a large quantity of counterfeit Stillman's facial crème. These raids were conducted on M/s Pak Traders, Pak General Stores, Ravee Traders, Sohny Traders, Ghazi Traders and Shaam Traders.
Criminal cases under Pakistan Copyright Act have been registered vide FIR 270/07 against accused persons. The police arrested Khawaja Ashfaq, Savek Ram, Hanif, Yasin and Yaqub. These raids have been conducted on the complaints lodged by Royal IPR Security Services; an IPR enforcement agency operating in Pakistan. More such raids are being carried out in other towns too.
The products of Stillman's of USA enjoy complete copyright/trade mark protection under Pakistan Laws and International Treaties. The Pakistan government is not only committed to honour the international treaties but also to rid the society of all such social evils. It is interesting to note that the leading consumers goods producers had been complaining for a long time about blatant counterfeiting of their products in Pakistan.
These anti-social elements are not only cheating consumers but also causing financial losses to the nation in shape of lost taxes. A careful survey reveals that the government is losing about 10 billions annually due to piracy and counterfeiting.-PR
