Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that mutual relations between Pakistan and America in education, health and economic sectors were strengthening with the passage of time.
He said that revolutionary changes were being introduced in health and education sectors through reforms programme and World Bank and other international financial institutions had not only appreciated the development process in education and other sectors but also presented it as a role model.
He said that government was US provides $200m support to PSDP, which would further reduce poverty and extremism. He said America played a commendable role for the relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims of Kashmir and NWFP.
He was talking to US Principal Officer, Bryan D Hunt during a meeting at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Friday. The Chief Minister said that education was a prerequisite for development and dignity of a nation at international level. He said that education sector reforms programme of the government was not only appreciated by international institutions, but it was also being referred as a model for other countries.
He said that free education up to matric level, text books and stationary was being provided to the students of schools while educational stipends were also being given to female students due to which 22,000,00 more children had been enrolled in educational institutions. He said that after the success of 'Parha Likha Punjab' programme, the government was now paying attention to the achievement of the goal of 'Sehat Mand Punjab'.
He said that in addition to treatment facilities, free medicines were also being provided to the patients at rural and basic health centers and 90 percent doctors and nurses had joined these centers, which presented a deserted look in the past. He said that telephonic service was also being started for the people of rural and urban areas for diagnosis of diseases due to which a common man would also be able to contact doctors of big hospitals for obtaining medical advice.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi further said that development programme was being speedily implemented through effective financial management and due to revolutionary changes in education and health sectors, the targets of social development were being successfully achieved even before the stipulated period.
He said that besides special education, government was also focusing on technical education and 1, 24,000 people were being imparted vocational training annually in the province so that they could benefit from the large-scale employment opportunities generated in the province through establishment of new industrial estates.
He said that rapid industrialisation was resulting in acceleration in the pace of development, poverty alleviation, and improvement in the standard of living of the masses as well as decline in extremism. He said that American companies were taking keen interest in investment in industrial estates due to which economic relations between Pakistan and USA would further improve.
