Punjab Assembly in its budgetary deliberations on Friday passed Budget 2007-08. On the occasion the worth of Rs 432.509 billion 41 'Demands for Grants' were approved by the House. The House passed 40 of them with majority vote while one was passed unanimously.
A number of cut motions brought by the opposition with regard to 'Demands for Grants' proceedings were defeated in the House on the occasion. Provincial Minister Imran Masud speaking on a cut motion on education with reference to subject of teacher's plight in public sector said that they had taken out procession not only in Punjab, but in other two provinces of the country.
He said a committee had been formed to look into their problems. He averred as provincial government did not want to compound to problems of children of 5th and 8th class, students belonging to these classes were promoted. He said to improve things and make all the schools in Punjab in perfect working shape an amount of Rs 100 billion was required.
The minister speaking about the government control over things in sector said they were fully involved in 100 checking of affairs of schools. Imran Masud said 250 subedar majors were inducted to monitor exams of 5th and 8th class during exams. He said papers of these exams were leaked out and now there was no need of them in service.
Speaker Afzal Sahi on the matter of a number of privilege motions presented by MPA Syed Ehsan Ullah Waqas, Rana Sana Ullah and others in the House said that these would be heard during general discussion on Police & General Administration.
Rana Sanaullah MPA on a cut motion criticised the government for its lavish mannerism of governance, particularly he castigated keeping of heavy number of different staff in Chief Minister House.
Meeting journalists Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in the assembly premises during the session said Chief Justice Ifthikar Muhammad Chaudhry was coming to the city during the day and as usual provincial government was undertaking complete security measures in this regard.
The CM said that he did not want to comment on his case as it was the jurisdiction of the apex Court, however opining on the politics that occurred with regard to it, he said it was point to ponder, he pointed.
Answering a question about second reference against the chief justice, he said Islamabad would be aware of the situation. They would talk to them in this regard, he dilated.
Talking about his comments on APC being held by opposition parties in UK, he said this question should be posed to them. Giving his comments on Benazir Bhutto's statement on the controversial writer Salman Rushdie, the CM said that the opposition leader till now had not contradicted this. The House was adjourned for Monday (3pm) later by the Chair.
