Homeless people in Islamabad on Friday demanded of the government to design a special housing scheme for them. They warned to besiege the capital park if denied. Almost 2,000 Christian and Muslim homeless people voiced this proposal at "Convention for homeless and oppressed masses striving for Pakistan".
J. Salik, former federal minister from minorities said, "Government has ignored the lower strata of the society especially the Christians. We perform low jobs at nominal wages. But we are not rewarded for our labour". We are Pakistani and have the right to ask the government for the solution of our problems without any discrimination, he added.
The government has allocated merely 300 plots to them in last 15 years. These houses do not meet our need. Therefore, "we, the downtrodden and homeless people living in the capital endorse to besiege the park of the city if not provided with a special residential scheme".
He said, the government has started numerous housing schemes for private and public employees but it has ignored them. He also announced to conduct another convention for oppressed and homeless people at Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi. That convention would help to design the future plan of action, he added.
