Praising the contribution being made by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) in the field of medicine, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, has said that the examinations system of the CPSP is among the best in the world.
He stated this while addressing the 41st convocation of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) in which 421 FCPS degrees and 253 MCPS diplomas were awarded to specialist doctors.
Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman stressed upon the fresh specialists to spend their energies for research in medical fields and offered wholehearted support of HEC for this purpose. He also announced a grant of Rs 100 million for joint ventures between HEC and CPSP.
Speaking on the occasion, President CPSP Professor Zafar Ullah Chaudhry stated that CPSP was providing fellowship and membership in 54 different disciplines. More than 80 percent of the country's specialists are fellows of the CPSP while the degrees of this college enjoy international recognition and are respected all over the world.
He further said that total number of CPSP fellows and members exceeded 14,500 while more than 10,000 trainees were in various stages of their training. The educational and training infrastructure of the college is of international standard and the college fellows are doing latest research in different fields of medicine.
The exemplary and transparent examination system of the CPSP is also recognised all over the world and many developing nations are following this, he added. Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman honoured Dr Sadia Saleem, Dr Mudasar Ali Ghazanfar, Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Dr Sadia Ashraf and Dr Saima Iqbal with gold medal awards on their distinguished performance in fellowship examination.
The council member of CPSP including Senior Vice President Professor Abdullah Jan Jafar from Quetta, Regional Director Lahore Professor Khalid Masood Gondal and others attended the convocation.
