The NWFP Minister for Tourism, Sports and Information Technology Hussain Ahmad Kanju has said that the NWFP government would do all its best for the revival and strengthening of the sick units of Swat silk industry to develop this particular trade on the national and international level.
This he stated while talking to a representative delegation of Swat Silk Industry Association (SSIA) in Peshawar on Friday. Members of the NWFP Assembly Muhammad Amin, Maulana Irfanullah and Maulana Nizamuddin were also present on this occasion.
The SSIA members demanded of the provincial government to take early steps for the revival and development of the Swat silk industry including 25 percent electricity subsidy, establishment of Malakand Industrial Zone and inclusion of special incentives package for silk industry in the recently announced Provincial Industrial Policy.
They reminded that the silk industry was in great trouble and was near to collapse due to non-interest of the NWFP government, therefore the government should come forward to help this sector at the earliest.
Welcoming positive proposals from the SSIA, the IT minister assured that the provincial government would spare no moment to stand up this industry on sound footings. He added that the said issue would immediately be taken up with the chief minister NWFP and Provincial Minister for Industries Malik Zafar Azam. Members of the SSIA thanked the minister for taking keen interest in redressing the problems of silk industry and assured all out support to the government.
